Scramjets

Scramjets are a type of jet engine designed to operate at hypersonic speeds, typically above Mach 5. They use the vehicle's forward motion to compress incoming air before combustion, eliminating the need for heavy compressor machinery. Scramjets are capable of achieving much higher speeds than traditional jet engines, making them ideal for space launch vehicles and high-speed aircraft. However, they require a high initial velocity to operate, typically achieved through a rocket booster or other means. Scramjets are still in the experimental phase and have not yet been widely adopted for commercial use.
