Refrigerant Gas
Refrigerant gas is a substance used in the cooling cycle of a refrigeration system. It absorbs heat from the environment and releases it elsewhere, allowing for the cooling of a space or object. In astronautical engineering, refrigerant gas is used in the cooling systems of spacecraft and satellites to regulate temperature and prevent overheating. The selection of a refrigerant gas is important as it must be able to function in the extreme conditions of space, including vacuum, radiation, and temperature fluctuations. Additionally, the refrigerant gas must not be harmful to the environment or human health. Common refrigerant gases used in space applications include ammonia, carbon dioxide, and Freon.
