Radiometry

Radiometry is the science of measuring electromagnetic radiation, including visible light, ultraviolet radiation, and infrared radiation. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, radiometry is used to measure the intensity, spectral distribution, and polarization of electromagnetic radiation in space. Radiometry is important in the design and operation of space-based instruments, such as telescopes, spectrometers, and radiometers, which are used to study the properties of celestial objects and the Earth's atmosphere. Radiometry is also used in remote sensing applications, such as satellite imaging and atmospheric monitoring, to measure the amount of radiation reflected or emitted by the Earth's surface and atmosphere. Radiometry plays a critical role in the development of space-based technologies, such as solar power systems and communication systems, which rely on the accurate measurement and control of electromagnetic radiation.
