Prevailing Westerlies

Prevailing Westerlies are the prevailing winds that blow from west to east in the middle latitudes between 30 and 60 degrees latitude. These winds are caused by the Coriolis effect, which is a result of the Earth's rotation. The Coriolis effect causes the winds to deflect to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. The Prevailing Westerlies are important in the field of space and astronautical engineering because they affect the trajectory of spacecraft and satellites. Engineers must take into account the Prevailing Westerlies when planning the launch and orbit of a spacecraft or satellite. The Prevailing Westerlies also affect the re-entry of spacecraft into the Earth's atmosphere, as they can cause the spacecraft to deviate from its intended trajectory.
