Near-Earth Objects

Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) are celestial bodies that come within close proximity to Earth's orbit. These objects include asteroids, comets, and meteoroids. NEOs are of great interest to space and astronautical engineers because they pose a potential threat to Earth if they were to collide with our planet. Studying NEOs can help us understand the formation and evolution of our solar system, as well as provide insight into the potential for extraterrestrial life. NEOs can also be potential targets for future space missions, such as asteroid mining or planetary defense. NASA's Near-Earth Object Program is responsible for detecting, tracking, and characterizing NEOs to determine their potential impact hazards.
