Memory Effect
Memory Effect is a phenomenon observed in some rechargeable batteries where the battery appears to 'remember' the last charge and discharge levels. This means that if the battery is repeatedly charged and discharged to the same levels, it will eventually 'remember' these levels and its capacity will be reduced. In space and astronautical engineering, Memory Effect is an important consideration for the design and operation of spacecraft batteries. Lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in spacecraft, are particularly susceptible to Memory Effect. To mitigate this effect, spacecraft batteries are often designed to operate within a specific state of charge range, and are periodically cycled through a full charge and discharge cycle to prevent the battery from 'remembering' a specific state of charge.
