United Nations Committee On The Peaceful Uses Of Outer Space

The United Nations Committee On The Peaceful Uses Of Outer Space (COPUOS) is a specialized committee of the United Nations General Assembly that was established in 1959. Its mandate is to promote international cooperation in the peaceful exploration and use of outer space, and to encourage the development and application of space science and technology for the benefit of humanity. COPUOS is responsible for formulating and overseeing the implementation of international treaties and principles governing the exploration and use of outer space, including the Outer Space Treaty of 1967. It also serves as a forum for the exchange of information and ideas on space-related issues, and facilitates cooperation among its member states and other international organizations in the peaceful uses of outer space.
