Lung Function

Lung function refers to the ability of the lungs to perform their physiological functions, which include ventilation, gas exchange, and oxygenation. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, lung function is a critical factor in determining an individual's ability to tolerate the physiological stresses of spaceflight. The microgravity environment of space can cause a number of changes in lung function, including decreased lung capacity, impaired gas exchange, and increased susceptibility to infection. These changes can have significant implications for the health and safety of astronauts during long-duration space missions. To mitigate these risks, space and astronautical engineers work to develop technologies and strategies to maintain and improve lung function in space, such as exercise regimens, respiratory support systems, and advanced life support systems.
