Imidization

Imidization is a process of converting a polyamic acid (PAA) precursor into a polyimide (PI) by thermal or chemical treatment. Polyimides are high-performance polymers that exhibit excellent thermal stability, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance, making them ideal for use in the aerospace industry. Imidization is a critical step in the fabrication of polyimide-based composites, coatings, adhesives, and films, which are widely used in spacecraft, satellites, and other aerospace applications. The imidization process involves the removal of water and other volatile byproducts from the PAA precursor, resulting in the formation of strong covalent bonds between the imide rings. The degree of imidization can be controlled by adjusting the imidization temperature, time, and pressure.
