GPS System

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth. It consists of a network of satellites orbiting the Earth, ground control stations, and GPS receivers. The GPS receiver calculates its position by measuring the time it takes for signals from at least four GPS satellites to reach the receiver. The accuracy of GPS depends on the number of satellites in view, the geometry of their positions, and the quality of the receiver. GPS is widely used in space and astronautical engineering for spacecraft navigation, attitude determination, and orbit determination. It is also used for ground-based tracking of spacecraft and launch vehicles, as well as for time synchronization of ground-based and space-based systems.
