Global Positioning System


Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth. It consists of a network of at least 24 satellites in orbit, ground control stations, and GPS receivers. The GPS receiver calculates its position by measuring the time it takes for signals from at least four GPS satellites to reach the receiver. GPS has a wide range of applications in space and astronautical engineering, including spacecraft navigation, satellite tracking, and space vehicle guidance.
