Gas Compression

Gas compression is the process of reducing the volume of a gas by increasing its pressure. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, gas compression is a critical component of rocket engines and life support systems. Rocket engines require compressed gases, such as liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, to generate thrust. Life support systems require compressed gases, such as oxygen and nitrogen, to provide breathable air for astronauts. Gas compression is achieved through various methods, including positive displacement compressors, dynamic compressors, and ejectors. Positive displacement compressors use a mechanical system to reduce the volume of gas, while dynamic compressors use high-speed rotating impellers to increase gas pressure. Ejectors use a high-velocity jet of gas to entrain and compress a secondary gas. Gas compression is a fundamental process in space and astronautical engineering, enabling the exploration and utilization of space.
