Gas Centrifugation
Gas centrifugation is a process of separating isotopes of gases using centrifugal force. It involves the use of a high-speed rotor to separate isotopes based on their mass difference. The gas is introduced into the rotor and spun at high speeds, causing the heavier isotopes to move towards the outer edge of the rotor while the lighter isotopes move towards the center. This creates a concentration gradient, which can be used to extract the desired isotope. Gas centrifugation is a key process in the production of enriched uranium for nuclear power and weapons. It is also used in the production of stable isotopes for medical and industrial applications.
