Flaps

In the context of aerospace engineering, flaps are a type of high-lift device used on the wings of an aircraft to increase its lift during takeoff and landing. They are typically mounted on the trailing edge of each wing and can be extended or retracted as needed. When extended, flaps increase the curvature of the wing, thereby increasing its lift coefficient. This allows the aircraft to fly at slower speeds without stalling, which is particularly useful during takeoff and landing. Flaps also increase the drag of the aircraft, which helps to slow it down during landing. There are several types of flaps, including plain flaps, split flaps, slotted flaps, and Fowler flaps, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice of flap type depends on the specific requirements of the aircraft, such as its size, weight, and intended use.
