Fixed-Wing Aircraft
A fixed-wing aircraft is a type of aircraft, which is capable of flight using wings that have a stationary design, rather than using the principles of rotation, as seen in the helicopter or other types of rotorcraft. These wings are designed with a specific airfoil section, which is selected for its aerodynamic properties that allow the aircraft to lift off the ground when moving forward at a certain speed. The fixed-wing aircraft's primary structural elements are the fuselage, wings, empennage, and undercarriage. The fuselage houses the cockpit, passengers, cargo, and most of the aircraft's equipment. The wings generate most of the lift to hold the plane in the air. The empennage (tail assembly) provides stability and control. The undercarriage, or landing gear, supports the aircraft when it is not flying. Fixed-wing aircraft are propelled forward by thrust from a propeller or jet engine. They are used for a variety of purposes, including transportation of goods and passengers, military applications, and for general aviation.
