Electron Gun
An electron gun is a device that generates a beam of electrons. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, electron guns are commonly used in spacecraft propulsion systems, such as ion thrusters and Hall effect thrusters. In these systems, an electron gun is used to ionize a propellant, such as xenon, by stripping electrons from its atoms. The resulting positively charged ions are then accelerated by an electric field and expelled from the spacecraft at high velocities, generating thrust. Electron guns are also used in scientific instruments, such as electron microscopes and particle accelerators, to generate and manipulate beams of electrons for imaging and analysis purposes.
