Dwarf Planets

Dwarf planets are celestial bodies that orbit the sun and have enough mass to form a nearly round shape, but have not cleared their orbit of other debris. They are considered too small to be classified as full-fledged planets, but are larger than most asteroids. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) currently recognizes five dwarf planets in our solar system: Pluto, Eris, Haumea, Makemake, and Ceres. Dwarf planets are important objects to study because they can provide insight into the formation and evolution of our solar system.
