Interactions Between Galaxies

Interactions between galaxies refer to the gravitational and tidal effects that occur when two or more galaxies come close to each other. These interactions can cause significant changes in the morphology, dynamics, and star formation rates of the galaxies involved. Depending on the relative masses, velocities, and orientations of the galaxies, the interactions can result in a variety of outcomes, such as tidal tails, bridges, and loops, as well as mergers and collisions. These interactions can also trigger the formation of new stars and the activation of supermassive black holes at the centers of the galaxies. Studying the interactions between galaxies is important for understanding the evolution of galaxies and the large-scale structure of the universe.
