Doldrums

In space and astronautical engineering, Doldrums refer to the region near the equator where the prevailing winds are calm and the weather is hot and humid. This region is also known as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and is characterized by low atmospheric pressure, light winds, and thunderstorms. The Doldrums pose a challenge to spacecraft and satellites as they can experience orbital decay due to the atmospheric drag. The region is also a challenge for aircraft as they require more fuel to fly through the area due to the lack of wind. In addition, the Doldrums are known for their unpredictable weather patterns, which can pose a risk to space and aircraft operations.
