Differential GPS (DGPS)

Differential GPS (DGPS) is a technique used to enhance the quality of location information obtained from satellite-based positioning systems, specifically the Global Positioning System (GPS). It works by setting up a network of fixed, ground-based reference stations to broadcast the difference between the positions indicated by the GPS satellite systems and the known fixed positions. These stations broadcast the difference between the measured satellite pseudoranges and actual (internally computed) pseudoranges, and receivers may correct their pseudoranges by the same amount. The result is a significant improvement in the accuracy of the position data obtained from the GPS system. This technique is widely used in aerospace engineering, particularly in navigation systems for aircraft and spacecraft, where precise positioning is crucial for safe and efficient operations.
