Deep Brain Stimulation

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a surgical procedure that involves implanting a device called a neurostimulator into the brain to deliver electrical impulses to specific areas. DBS is used to treat a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The neurostimulator is connected to electrodes that are placed in the brain, and the electrical impulses can be adjusted to target specific areas of the brain. DBS is often used when medications are no longer effective or cause intolerable side effects. The procedure is reversible and can be adjusted or turned off if necessary.
