Electrodes

In space and astronautical engineering, electrodes are conductive materials used to make contact with a non-metallic part of a circuit, such as an electrolyte, a semiconductor, or a vacuum. Electrodes are essential components of many space systems, including batteries, solar cells, fuel cells, and sensors. They are used to transfer charge, generate electricity, measure physical and chemical properties, and control the behavior of plasmas and ionized gases. Electrodes can be made of various materials, such as metals, alloys, oxides, carbides, nitrides, and polymers, depending on the specific application and environment. The performance of electrodes is influenced by factors such as their composition, morphology, surface area, porosity, stability, and compatibility with other materials. Electrodes can also be subject to degradation and failure due to factors such as corrosion, erosion, fatigue, and radiation damage.
