Cryptographic Algorithm
A cryptographic algorithm is a mathematical function used to encrypt and decrypt data. It is a set of rules or procedures that transform plaintext into ciphertext and vice versa. Cryptographic algorithms are designed to provide confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of data. They are used in various applications such as secure communication, digital signatures, and data protection. Cryptographic algorithms can be symmetric or asymmetric. Symmetric algorithms use the same key for encryption and decryption, while asymmetric algorithms use different keys for encryption and decryption. Examples of cryptographic algorithms include Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Data Encryption Standard (DES), and Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA). Cryptographic algorithms are an essential component of modern cryptography and are used to protect sensitive information in various fields, including space and astronautical engineering.
