EPROM
EPROM stands for Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory. It is a type of non-volatile memory that can be programmed and erased multiple times. EPROMs are made of a grid of transistors and capacitors that can be charged or discharged to represent a binary 1 or 0. To program an EPROM, a high voltage is applied to the grid, which causes the transistors to trap electrons in the capacitors, creating a pattern of charged and uncharged cells that can be read as data. To erase an EPROM, it must be exposed to ultraviolet light for a specified amount of time, which causes the trapped electrons to dissipate. EPROMs were widely used in early computer systems and other electronic devices that required non-volatile memory that could be reprogrammed.
