Compressive Load

Compressive load refers to the force applied to a structure or material that tends to compress or shorten it. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, compressive load is an important consideration in the design and testing of spacecraft and their components. During launch and atmospheric re-entry, spacecraft are subjected to high levels of compressive load due to the acceleration and deceleration forces experienced. This can cause structural deformation or failure if the spacecraft is not designed to withstand these loads. Compressive load is also a factor in the design of rocket engines and their components, as the high pressures and temperatures involved can cause materials to compress and deform over time. Testing for compressive load is typically done using specialized equipment such as hydraulic presses or compression testing machines.
