Committee On The Peaceful Uses Of Outer Space
The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) is a United Nations General Assembly committee that was established in 1959. Its mandate is to review and promote international cooperation on peaceful uses of outer space, to encourage space research and the dissemination of information about space, and to study legal problems arising from the exploration of outer space. COPUOS has played a key role in the development of international space law and the adoption of important space treaties, such as the Outer Space Treaty of 1967. The committee also serves as a forum for the exchange of information and ideas on space-related issues among its member states and observer organizations.
