Chemical Propellants

Chemical propellants are substances that undergo a chemical reaction to produce the necessary thrust to propel a spacecraft. They are typically composed of a fuel and an oxidizer, which when combined, undergo a chemical reaction that produces hot gases that are expelled out of a nozzle to create thrust. Chemical propellants are commonly used in spacecraft propulsion systems due to their high energy density and controllability. There are two main types of chemical propellants: liquid and solid. Liquid propellants are typically composed of a fuel and an oxidizer that are stored separately and mixed together in a combustion chamber. Solid propellants, on the other hand, are composed of a fuel and an oxidizer that are mixed together and then cast into a solid form. Once ignited, the solid propellant burns in a controlled manner to produce thrust.
