Axes

In space and astronautical engineering, axes refer to the three mutually perpendicular reference lines that are used to define the orientation of a spacecraft or any other object in space. The three axes are the X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis. The X-axis is the line that runs from the spacecraft's center of mass to the right, the Y-axis runs from the center of mass to the top, and the Z-axis runs from the center of mass towards the front of the spacecraft. These axes are used to describe the spacecraft's attitude, which is the orientation of the spacecraft with respect to a reference frame. Attitude control systems are used to adjust the spacecraft's attitude by controlling its rotation around these axes.
