Autoclaving

Autoclaving is a process of sterilization that uses high pressure and high temperature steam to kill microorganisms and spores. In space and astronautical engineering, autoclaving is commonly used to sterilize equipment and materials before they are sent to space. This is important because microorganisms and spores can survive in space and potentially contaminate other planets or spacecraft. Autoclaving is also used to sterilize samples collected from space before they are analyzed on Earth. The process involves placing the equipment or material in a chamber, sealing it, and then subjecting it to high pressure and high temperature steam for a set amount of time. Once the process is complete, the equipment or material is considered sterile and safe to use in space.
