Apogee


In space and astronautical engineering, apogee refers to the point in an object's orbit where it is farthest from the center of the body it is orbiting. This term is commonly used in reference to artificial satellites and spacecraft. The apogee of an orbit is an important parameter in determining the orbit's shape and characteristics, such as its period and inclination. In order to achieve a desired orbit, spacecraft may use propulsion systems to adjust their velocity and altitude at specific points in their trajectory, including at apogee.
