Adsorbent Material

Adsorbent materials are substances that are used to remove or reduce the concentration of certain components from a gas or liquid stream. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, adsorbent materials are used in life support systems to remove carbon dioxide, water vapor, and other contaminants from the air inside spacecraft. These materials are also used in the development of air revitalization systems for spacesuits and habitats. Adsorbent materials can be made from a variety of substances, including activated carbon, zeolites, and metal-organic frameworks. The effectiveness of an adsorbent material depends on its surface area, pore size, and chemical properties. In addition to their use in life support systems, adsorbent materials are also used in spacecraft propulsion systems to remove trace contaminants from propellants and in the development of thermal control systems to regulate temperature.
