Transmission Control Protocol

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is a communication protocol that operates at the transport layer of the Internet protocol suite. It provides reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of data between applications running on hosts communicating via an IP network. TCP is connection-oriented, meaning that a connection is established and maintained until the application programs at each end have finished exchanging messages. TCP uses a three-way handshake to establish a connection before data transmission begins. It also includes flow control and congestion control mechanisms to prevent network congestion and ensure reliable delivery of data.
