Trade Winds

Trade winds are the prevailing pattern of easterly surface winds found in the tropics, within the region of the Earth's equator. These winds blow predominantly from the northeast in the Northern Hemisphere and from the southeast in the Southern Hemisphere. They are caused by the Earth's rotation and the differences in temperature between the equator and the poles. Trade winds are important for space and astronautical engineering as they affect the trajectory of spacecraft and satellites launched from Earth. The winds can be used to help propel spacecraft and reduce the amount of fuel needed for propulsion. However, they can also pose a challenge for spacecraft navigation and control, as they can cause unexpected changes in trajectory. Understanding the behavior of trade winds is therefore crucial for successful space missions.
