Space Situational Awareness

Space Situational Awareness (SSA) is the ability to detect, track, catalog, and predict the movements of objects in space, including natural and artificial objects such as satellites, debris, and asteroids. SSA involves the use of ground-based and space-based sensors, as well as advanced data processing and analysis techniques, to provide information on the location, trajectory, and potential collisions of objects in space. SSA is critical for ensuring the safety and sustainability of space activities, as collisions between objects in space can create dangerous debris fields that can damage or destroy satellites and other spacecraft. SSA is also important for national security and defense, as it enables the monitoring of potential threats to space-based assets and the identification of unauthorized activities in space.
