POES (Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite

POES (Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite) is a series of polar-orbiting weather satellites operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States. These satellites provide global coverage of weather patterns and environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, cloud cover, and precipitation. The data collected by POES is used for weather forecasting, climate research, and environmental monitoring. The satellites are equipped with a variety of sensors, including microwave radiometers, sounders, and imagers, which allow them to collect data in a range of wavelengths and frequencies. POES satellites are launched into a sun-synchronous orbit, which allows them to pass over the same point on Earth at the same time each day, providing consistent and reliable data. The first POES satellite was launched in 1978, and the series is still in operation today.
