Modem (modulator/Demodulator)

A modem is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, modems are used to transmit data between spacecraft and ground stations. They are essential for communication between spacecraft and Earth, as they allow for the transmission of telemetry data, scientific data, and commands. Modems used in space applications must be designed to withstand the harsh radiation environment of space, and must be able to operate reliably over long distances. They are typically designed to operate at specific frequencies, and must be carefully calibrated to ensure that they can communicate effectively with ground stations.
