Microcontroller
In the context of aerospace engineering, a microcontroller is a compact integrated circuit designed to govern a specific operation in an embedded system. It is a self-contained system with peripherals, memory and a processor that can be used as an embedded system. Most of the microcontrollers used in aerospace applications are embedded in other machinery such as satellites, rovers, and spacecraft for control, monitoring and data collection purposes. They are designed to be robust and reliable in the harsh conditions of space, including extreme temperatures and radiation. Microcontrollers in aerospace are often responsible for critical tasks such as controlling the direction and speed of a spacecraft, managing communication systems, and processing data from various sensors. They are typically programmed to perform a specific task with real-time computing constraints, and their use can significantly reduce the size and complexity of an aerospace system, as well as increase its reliability and performance.
