Lithography

Lithography is a process of printing that uses a flat stone or metal plate on which the image areas are worked using a greasy substance so that the ink will adhere to them by, while the non-image areas are made ink-repellent. In space and astronautical engineering, lithography is used to create microelectronic devices such as integrated circuits, microprocessors, and sensors. The lithography process involves the use of a photomask, which is a patterned template that is used to transfer the desired pattern onto the substrate. The photomask is placed over the substrate, and light is shone through it, exposing the substrate to the pattern. The exposed areas are then chemically treated to create the desired pattern. Lithography is a critical process in the fabrication of microelectronic devices, and advances in lithography have enabled the creation of smaller and more complex devices.
