Halo Orbit

A Halo Orbit is a three-dimensional periodic orbit that lies in the plane of a primary body's orbit around a secondary body. It is a type of Lissajous orbit, which is a complex orbital path that results from the gravitational interaction between two celestial bodies. Halo Orbits are used in space and astronautical engineering for a variety of purposes, including satellite communication, remote sensing, and space exploration. They are particularly useful for missions that require long-term stability and continuous observation of a specific region of space, such as the Earth-Moon Lagrange points. Halo Orbits are also used for spacecraft that need to maintain a constant distance from a planet or moon, such as the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. These orbits are highly complex and require precise calculations and adjustments to maintain their stability over time.
