Grounding
Grounding in space and astronautical engineering refers to the process of connecting an electrical circuit to the ground. This is done to prevent electrical shock, protect equipment from lightning strikes, and ensure proper functioning of the circuit. In spacecraft, grounding is crucial to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) which can damage sensitive electronic components. Grounding is also important in launch vehicles and ground support equipment to prevent static electricity buildup. Grounding can be achieved through various methods such as using conductive materials, grounding straps, and grounding rods.
