Flat-plate Collectors
Flat-plate collectors are solar thermal devices used to absorb solar radiation and convert it into thermal energy. They consist of a flat, rectangular box with a dark absorber plate, covered with a transparent glass or plastic cover. The absorber plate is usually made of metal and is coated with a selective coating to maximize the absorption of solar radiation. The absorbed solar energy is transferred to a fluid, usually water or a mixture of water and antifreeze, which circulates through the collector and carries the heat to a storage tank or directly to a heat exchanger. Flat-plate collectors are commonly used in solar water heating systems for residential and commercial buildings, as well as in some industrial applications.
