Fatigue
Fatigue is a phenomenon that occurs in space and astronautical engineering due to the prolonged exposure of materials and structures to the harsh environment of space. It is the weakening of a material caused by repeated loading and unloading, which can lead to cracks and fractures. Fatigue is a major concern for spacecraft and satellites, as they are subjected to constant vibrations, thermal cycling, and radiation. To mitigate fatigue, engineers use materials that are resistant to cracking and corrosion, and design structures that can withstand the stresses of spaceflight. They also perform extensive testing and analysis to ensure that spacecraft and satellites are able to operate safely and reliably in space.
