Coriolis Force

Coriolis force is a fictitious force that appears in a rotating reference frame. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, it is an important concept in understanding the motion of objects in orbit around a rotating planet or other celestial body. The Coriolis force arises due to the rotation of the reference frame and acts perpendicular to the direction of motion of the object. It is responsible for the deflection of moving objects to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. In space, the Coriolis force affects the trajectory of spacecraft and can cause them to drift off course if not properly accounted for. It is also a factor in the design and operation of space-based telescopes and other instruments that require precise pointing. Understanding the Coriolis force is essential for accurate navigation and control of spacecraft in orbit around rotating bodies.
