Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless, odorless gas that is naturally present in the Earth's atmosphere. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, carbon dioxide is a significant component of the Martian atmosphere and is a major concern for human exploration and habitation on the planet. CO2 is a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming and climate change, and its concentration in the Martian atmosphere is much higher than that of Earth. Therefore, developing technologies to mitigate and manage CO2 emissions is critical for sustainable human exploration and habitation on Mars. In addition, CO2 can be used as a propellant for spacecraft, and research is ongoing to develop more efficient and cost-effective CO2-based propulsion systems.
