Cancer Risk

Cancer risk refers to the likelihood of developing cancer due to exposure to various risk factors such as radiation, chemicals, viruses, and lifestyle factors. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, astronauts are exposed to higher levels of radiation due to the absence of Earth's protective atmosphere and magnetic field. This increased exposure to radiation puts astronauts at a higher risk of developing cancer. NASA has established radiation exposure limits for astronauts and takes measures to minimize their exposure. However, long-duration space missions, such as a mission to Mars, may require astronauts to exceed these limits, increasing their cancer risk. Therefore, it is important for space agencies to continue to research and develop new technologies to minimize radiation exposure and mitigate the risk of cancer for astronauts.
