Aircraft Communication Addressing And Reporting System
The Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) is a digital data link system for the transmission of short, relatively simple messages between aircraft and ground stations via radio or satellite. The system is used by commercial and business aircraft to send and receive messages from ground-based operations, such as airlines and air traffic control. ACARS messages can include vital flight information such as fuel consumption, engine performance data, aircraft position, and in-flight issues or emergencies. The system is also used for automatic reporting of in-flight events and for aircraft system monitoring. ACARS operates over VHF radio in the aircraft communication band, or via satellite using Inmarsat or Iridium services. The system is an essential part of modern aviation, providing real-time communication and reporting capabilities that enhance safety, efficiency, and operational control.
