Terminal Area Charts

Terminal Area Charts (TACs) are a type of aeronautical chart designed for navigation in the vicinity of major airports in the aerospace engineering field. These charts provide detailed information about the airspace, topography, and ground features relevant to pilots operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) within a 30-nautical-mile radius of the busiest U.S. airports. TACs are scaled at 1:250,000, which is twice the scale of sectional charts, allowing for more detail to be depicted. They include information such as airport layouts, runway data, radio frequencies, airspace boundaries, navigational aids, and obstructions that could pose a risk to aircraft. TACs are updated every six months to ensure the most accurate information is available to pilots. They are an essential tool for pilots to ensure safe and efficient navigation in complex and congested airspace.
