An oral surgeon is a dental specialist who is trained to perform surgical procedures on the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. They diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including impacted teeth, facial pain, misaligned jaws, and oral cancer. Oral surgeons also perform complex procedures such as reconstructive surgery, bone grafting, and dental implant placement. They work closely with other dental and medical professionals to provide comprehensive care to their patients. Oral surgeons must complete a four-year dental program, followed by a four to six-year surgical residency program. They must also obtain a license to practice in their state.
