Local Winds

Local winds are small-scale atmospheric circulations that occur in response to local changes in temperature, pressure, and topography. These winds are typically confined to a small geographic area and have a relatively short duration. Local winds can be classified into two main types: thermal and topographic. Thermal winds are caused by differences in temperature between two adjacent areas, while topographic winds are caused by differences in pressure due to variations in the topography of the land. Examples of local winds include sea breezes, land breezes, mountain and valley breezes, and katabatic winds. Local winds can have significant impacts on weather patterns, air quality, and aviation operations.
