Hot Isostatic Pressing
Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is a manufacturing process used to consolidate, densify and improve the mechanical properties of metallic and ceramic materials. The process involves applying high temperature and pressure simultaneously to the material in a sealed container. The temperature and pressure are maintained long enough to allow the material to deform plastically and eliminate any internal voids or defects. HIP is commonly used in the aerospace industry to produce high-performance components such as turbine blades, rocket engine parts, and heat exchangers. The process can also be used to repair damaged or worn components by filling in cracks or voids with additional material.
